Last week‘s news round-up was mostly Marvel and while there are a couple of rumblings from them this week, DC’s also trying to remind the world they exist. Yesterday also marked the start of San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), so there will be lots of announcements being made possibly today, tomorrow and this weekend. I’ll make sure to keep my ears out and bring you the latest next Thursday. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Here’s what you may have missed this week (you might notice a recurring theme of uncertainty throughout the entire post…oh and a lot of red):
The Hobbit tweeted the first poster of the last movie of the trilogy coming out this December, The Battle of The Five Armies. Apparently, those lucky enough will be able to catch a sneak-peek at SDCC.
…at S.H.I.E.L.D.’s secret base
While I have not given S.H.I.E.L.D. a second chance after giving up halfway through the pilot, I believe they just gave me a very, very, very good reason to by casting Lucy Lawless. Seriously, way to twist my arm, guys. I’ll be waiting with bated breath to see who she’s going to play and for how many episodes.
…in the Marvel Universe
It’s not exactly news, more like a teaser for news if you can even call it that. Marvel’s just been announcing release dates left and right involving the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It would be super nice to have some titles to go along with these dates but I guess that’s what SDCC is for…hopefully. People have been hoping for films featuring Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel, Black Widow, The Infinity Gauntlet, Black Panther, Doctor Strange and yet another Hulk movie. And again, we’ll just have to wait and see…wow I’m saying that a ton this post.
Meanwhile over at DC…
…in Fawcett City (maybe)
Ok what is with actors that have had meetings with DC and then give a cryptic soundbite about possibly playing an awesome comic book character. This happened with Jason Momoa regarding Aquaman (Is he or isn’t he?! TELL ME). And this past week, Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock has also sort of said he might have a role in the upcoming Shazam movie. Will he play Shazam (it’s Captain Marvel!) or perhaps Black Adam? Is he actually in it at all? Damn it, Warner Bros., you better confirm both pieces of news this weekend!
…in Starling & Central City
Finally something I can tell you guys that’s actually official. I knew I could count on the amazing writers and producers of The CW’s Arrow and The Flash to give us something concrete to anticipate. Basically here’s what you need to know according to this, this and this:
– Arrow‘s Felicity will be in Episode 4 of The Flash
– Episodes 8 of both shows will be a two-hour crossover event
– Prison Break‘s Wentworth Miller will play Captain Cold
– DC’s TV universe will be different from the film universe
– They’ll introduce a gay character that’s already established in the DCU in the 1st half of The Flash
– This season’s big bad might be Ra’s Al Ghul
– Oh and yes, enjoy Roy as Arsenal/Red Arrow above.
All of these things make me so happy. Even though I’ll lament the end of summer, these two shows will definitely make this fall an awesome one.
While I know that this week’s round-up is rife with speculation and mystery, it has given us a lot to think about to say the least. Now let’s go stalk the twitter accounts of people at SDCC. Happy Thursday!
