Friday Favorites

Happy Friday the 13th to one and all! Yesterday marked the start of the 2014 World Cup but before we get into today’s and this weekend’s games, sorry matches, I wanna share some of my favorite things from this week.

The Cardinals came to visit Toronto this past weekend and it allowed my boyfriend the chance to cheer on his team. Granted they lost the game we went to but they won the next two!

I also got to see my girlfriends and their boyfriends. The triple date happened at Bannock, where I had a marvellous melon sangria.

I was also pretty sick starting Tuesday night and had a fever on Wednesday. Luckily Magnum and OITNB helped a lot!

Despite still recovering from my fever, I made it out to the polling booth yesterday, which was literally less than a block away and cast my vote for my first ever Ontario elections.

And last but not least, our Dutch neighbor and friend Jons convinced us to root for The Netherlands with him. Honestly my American boyfriend and I don’t really care about soccer but it’s pretty hard to not get excited about the World Cup when we live in Toronto.

Hope everyone has an awesome soccer-filled weekend!

Father’s Day 2014 Gift Guide

In case you don’t own a calendar or haven’t looked it up on Google, this Sunday, June 15th, is Father’s Day. My dad lives in the Philippines so I can’t exactly spend it with him in person but luckily I visited him a few months ago. For those of you lucky enough to be able to see your dad on Father’s Day, here a few gift suggestions:

1. When my dad came to Toronto for my graduation, I took him to a Jays game and he loved it. It remains one of my fondest memories.

2. I’ve heard only good things about this bestseller.

3. One can never go wrong with a nice tie in a fun color.

4. My boyfriend’s dad loves this movie and so will you.

5. Who doesn’t love beer? If your dad doesn’t, there’s always his favorite bottle of (insert liquor here).

6. An overnight bag so he can come visit you more often.

Happy Thursday and if you live in Ontario, don’t forget to vote!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! I’m still in such a good mood after the Canadiens won against the Bruins in Game 7 on Wednesday night. I’m looking forward to the Eastern Conference Finals which start tomorrow. Plus my boyfriend and I are also going on a road trip next week to his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri for his best friend’s wedding so we’re very excited. I’ll be posting more on our trip next week, but for now, here are a few of my favorites from this week:

Before all the recent rain, we had our first few days of great weather and I definitely took advantage by spending as much time outside as I could. Patio weather is coming! My go-to summer drink has to be Somersby cider.

I went to my first Blue Jays game of the season and wrote a fashion post about it. The St. Louis Cardinals will be coming to Toronto when we get back from our trip so we’ll try to catch those games.

My friend Nathalie met me for lunch before Game 6 of the Canadiens-Bruins series and brought good luck since we won that night to force a Game 7 and win the entire thing. She left me half of this salted caramel dessert from the newly renovated Loblaws up the street and I ate it as a celebratory snack after the game.

And last but definitely not least, I have worn this jersey throughout the whole series and while we may have lost some games, I was wearing it Wednesday when we beat the Bruins so I’m officially calling it my lucky jersey.

All I can say is have a great long weekend. Have a safe and fun Victoria Day. And Go Habs Go!

Baseball Season & The Fashion It Inspires

Last Friday I went to a Blue Jays game, my first baseball game of the season. While baseball is not my favorite sport to watch, I am a Habs fan first and foremost after all, I still enjoy hanging out with my friends and trying to keep score. Since the Montreal Expos became the Washington Nationals, I don’t have a choice but to root for the only Canadian team left. Baseball might be America’s favorite pastime but the Blue Jays are beloved in Toronto. Sure, the stadium isn’t always full and fine, they don’t always win but hey, we cheer them on anyway. Here are a few pieces inspired by the sport and by the Jays:

1. If you’re not a big sports fan, this Robert Rodriguez top strikes the perfect balance between sporty and chic.
2. My aunt actually got me this bag while I was in the Philippines and I’ve been so in love with it. It’s blue, so perfect to cheer on the Jays and it goes with almost any outfit.
3. This shirt may be too on the nose but it’s a classic V-neck so you can’t go wrong.
4. These earrings are a more subtle way to pay homage to the Jays. Plus you can go from the Rogers Centre straight to a fancy dinner.
5. My boyfriend being American and being from St. Louis is the biggest baseball fan. So here’s a little something for his Cardinals.
Happy Monday and have a great rest of the week!
